Broadening Euro Horizons: Vojvodina – Estonia journalists’ exchange
The project’s overall objective is aimed at supporting international media cooperation designed to broaden the knowledge, professional capacities as well as system of effective exchange of information by establishing new links between the colleagues of local/national both print and broadcasting media covering Serbia and Estonia, through sharing good practices, experiences and know-how accumulated in Estonia during preparations for EU membership (considering the effects of media digitalization and privatization during the processes of media reform already pursued in Estonia, and expected to be done in Serbia – specially having in mind different approaches to the process of privatization of minority media and preparation for the process of media digitalization in the years to come – sharing lessons learned and opportunities to be used) and to create a knowledge-based public opinion on EU integration policies in Vojvodina/Serbia.
Creating stronger European ties and understanding among the colleagues from two countries will be achieved by organizing: two one-week visits (to Estonia and Serbia: two journalists’ teams composed of – all in all 20 of them- both print and broadcasting media with special attention paid to journalist covering the minority issues to be involved), by organizing Vojvodina Day in Estonia, as well as by publishing/broadcasting articles, documentaries, radio-shows…in Serbian/Estonian/Russian/ Hungarian/Slovak.. in due course of four months (March – June 2009). Project will be implemented in tandem with youth organization “Open Republic” and Estonian Public Broadcaster (ERR).
By opening new Vojvodina/Estonia perspective journalist will get a chance to change so far predominant one-sided approach of reporting based on partial only Serbian/Estonian perspective as well as strengthen inner professional capabilities: as for Vojvodina’s side the project goal is aimed at raising public awareness and decomposing negative “myths” and prejudices as to Euro-Atlantic integrations which causing the obstacles in the Serbia’s way joining Euro-Atlantic community in order to maintain confidence and change the attitudes of the ordinary citizens to the Euro-Atlantic community’s norms, values and standards by generating an in-depth understanding of complex and interrelated, political and economic challenges and demands Serbia is facing with.
