Security Challenges of the 21st Century and Power of Dialogue
Conference “Security Challenges of the 21st Century and Power of Dialogue” was held with the aim to mark the 60th anniversary of the “Three Wise Men Report” – a report prepared by the three foreign ministers - of Norway Mr. Halvard Lange, Canada Mr. Lester Pearson and Italy Mr. Gaetano Martino, and presented December 1956 as one of the landmark reports in the history of NATO.
Project purpose was to learn how to apply lessons of the Report as an incentive in generating in-depth understanding of a broader context of NATO-Serbia relationships as well strengthening the process of NATO-Serbia confidence building. In a word, how to re-establish NATO-Serbia trust, how to promote power of dialogue in the turbulent world overwhelmed with complex crises and conflicts, a fundamental lack of mutual trust and confidence and an alarming phenomenon of growing radicalization and violent extremism, especially among young people?
Therefore, we tried to link Report’s recommendations and reality of 21st century of Serbia: question is, to what extent this Report is actual and applicable today, while we are faced with a broad range of security challenges, terrorist and cyber threats, refugee crises, natural catastrophes; question is not only how to answer but how to find long-term solutions by creating political and strategic answers, dialogue and negotiations, by removing roots of problems, analyzing the essence, facing with the prejudices, identity and symbolic fears of the suspended generations; how to remove overwhelming economic, political social inequality, marginalization of the vulnerable and invisible social groups?
The conference was held under the auspices of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
