Building Up the European Identity of Multicultural Vojvodina
By organizing panel “Intercultural Dialogue and Tolerance” (as the part of the project “Building Up the European Identity of Multicultural Vojvodina”) together with the Danube Biro the Centre for Politics and Euro-Atlantic Partnership initiated a range of open debates with the expected final May 8, 2008 international fora “Perspectives of Multicultural Vojvodina in Europe” taking place in the city of Backa Topola as well as launching the incentive works of the future Euroregional Centre of Tolerance.
How to build the European multidimensional identity of multicultural province of Vojvodina? By organizing two panels: in the city of Novi Sad under the auspices of the Parliamentary Assembly of AP of Vojvodina and in the city of Backa Topola (host city of the Camp of Tolerance of the Youth from Cities and Regions of the Danube Basin) as a part of endeavors to promote Backa Topla as a future Euroregional Centre of Tolerance, the Centre for Politics and Euro-Atlantic Partnership in cooperation with Dunavski Biro (Danube Biro), as well as Backa Topola local self-government plans to broach the issue of the European Identity of Multicultural Vojvodina from different angles gathering experts from the region as well as youth activist and the Camp of Tolerance’s participants. “Myths” about being the citizen of Europe still dominating in the public discourse and that’s why is important to change predominant conservative mindset and spur the motivation and efforts citizens (especially youth) have to make by themselves in order to change their attitudes and habits. The idea is: offer a new and different approach to identity building – the concept of the European multidimensional identity with the aim to overcome the region’s longstanding interethnic distrust and intolerance, to promote intercultural and interethnic understanding; to harness the region’s intellectual potential vis-à-vis its multidimensional identity; to encourage the region’s youth to cultivate multidimensional the European identity. Key-note address as well as proceedings will be published in a special brochure. This brochure will be used as a reading material for the participants of the planned July 2008, Backa Topola the Camp of Tolerance.
The project is supported by: the embassy of Switzerland in Serbia and the Slovak Agency for International Development Cooperation.
